Field Guide to Bedside Diagnosis, 2nd Edition

Autor: Smith, David S.
This Field Guide to Bedside Diagnosis is intended to be used as the naturalist field guides are. Observations of subtle clinical differences made at the bedside—the metaphorical field—are applied in diagnosis. Standard textbooks of medicine are oriented around specific diseases, for example, myocardial infarction. Unfortunately, patients do not come labeled as such but have undifferentiated symptoms and signs, such as chest pain, which may have many potential causes ranging from trivial to life-threatening. Standard physical diagnosis textbooks focus on techniques of physical examination rather than on the use of physical findings, integrated with history, in differential diagnosis.
